A long time ago, there was a man in the countryside. He was a very poor man. He didn’t have enough money to buy an ax. So he always used his old ax. One day, he went to mountain to get some firewood. He hit a large tree with his ax. But the tree was too hard, so the ax fell in a lake. The man was sad because he didn’t have any money to buy a new ax. He began to cry. He said, “Help me please, mountain spirit!” And then, the mountain spirit came out from the lake. He was holding a golden ax. “Is this golden ax yours?” the spirit asked.

“No, It’s not mine”, the man answered. Then the spirit disappeared. After a second, He came out with a silver ax.

 “Is this silver ax yours?”

“No, It’s not mine. Mine is an old, dirty iron ax.”

The spirit brought the man’s ax.

 “Is this yours?”

 “Yes! That is mine!”

Then the mountain spirit brought all three axes, and gave the axes to the man.

“You’re very honest. I’ll give you this golden, and silver, iron axes. Now you’re not poor anymore,” the spirit said.

 “Thank you, mountain spirit!”

After that day, the man sold three axes and became rich.

At that time, there was a bad man. He heard the honest man’s story. He wanted to have a golden ax and a silver ax. He went to the mountain and threw his ax in the lake. The mountain spirit came out. The man pretended to be sad. He said,  “My golden ax and silver ax fell in the lake! Give me the axes!” The mountain spirit was angry. He said, “You told a lie. You are a liar. Go away!” And the mountain spirit disappeared. The bad man couldn’t have the gold or silver ax and also lost his own ax.
